pages

Here is the actual, unedited beginnings of my NaNoNovel along with the other 111 pages (printed double-sided to save paper). It’s a collection of the stream-of-consciousness questions and answers I wrote as I started to play with the story. An exploration, or perhaps more accurately, an excavation of ideas. Up until the last day, I wrote my 8 pages (approx 1,600 words) by hand first, then typed it. I find the process of writing by hand to be more conducive to keeping the critic at bay. When I compose at the keyboard, I tend to focus on correcting spelling errors and a host of other highly unimportant writer’s-block-inducing activities.

As soon as I have made some significant progress on my Christmas present for my son — a cosplay costume of Fate Stay Night Archer (see below) — I will begin my rewriting process in earnest. I’m giving myself 3 months to have a decent draft completed that I can send out for reading to a few people. If you’d like to be on my feedback team, please let me know. And yes, Ruth, you’re already on the list :o)

At home recouping from chemo session #5. Feeling purdy good. Just finished a profitable round of research on Google to gather ideas for my son’s steampunk outfit. Found someone who’s created an awesome version of Hiccup’s armour from How to Train Your Dragon 2.

Now THAT’S my definition of a good time. This is going to be a fun project.

Steampunk Revolution | Abney Park

If you’re unfamiliar with steampunk, or cosplay, this video is a fun introduction. And if you like this Abney Park song, check out their Airship Pirates, live concert in Moscow (2014).

One of the scenes with the illusionist’s performance (with the drill) makes me feel a little weird, but otherwise love this! The first part (3:21 min) is the song. The rest of it is a listing of credits — band members and the contributors who sent photos/video clips.

Out with the new,

’cos [we] play

'cos we play ~ sld

We had to go into town to pick up my laptop from the Apple Store today – a one-day/two-night’s rejuvenating spa treatment (a.k.a. a new battery installed, old one toast) – and my son wanted to make good use of the goggles we found at Costume Capers on Monday when we went to SLO to see about my ’puter.

This morning he asked me if I’d go steampunk, too. (my answer obvious)

I brought my camera with us so we could swing by my husband’s office for a mo and he could snap a photo of us. A happy memory from 2014.

Costume play (cosplay) is a natural phenomenon for us. Perhaps you remember the plus fours I made for my son as part of his Tintin outfit a couple of years back. (post link here) Several years ago, I sent an image of Fireman Sam to my mom so she could make him a costume for Christmas. I have a picture on Flickr of him here. And then there was the Postman Pat uniform and hat I made for him (see photo below). Fun stuff.

what happens when music, dance and steampunk collide?

Fun happens, that’s what.

Cosplay* at its best.
