changing plans in Santa Barbara

This past Saturday, we travelled down to Santa Barbara to pick up my dad. He’s visiting us for a couple of weeks and he’d flown into LA, then taken the Santa Barbara Airbus to come north. We were looking forward to spending a while at the zoo before his bus arrived — the stop is only a short distance away from the zoo — but we missed being able to go in by about 10 minutes. They were having a special event that night and needed to close early to set up.

A change of plans.

We briefly mulled over options and decided to go to Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens and the great playground that’s across the street called “Kids’ World.”

So, while my fellows ran, scaled, slid, and climbed around the huge fort-like structure, playing tag, I meandered through the garden. It was lovely. This unexpected change of plans worked out beautifully.

Here are a few of the photos I took . . .

― Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden
