Morning Meanderings

As I was walking along the estuary beach this morning, I saw two brown pelicans diving for their breakfasts. It amazes me how these birds, and especially the terns that hover very high above the water, are able to see wee fishes and time their dives so accurately that they are often successful. And then there are the snowy plovers that can see microscopic organisms along the water’s edge which the other shore birds that might be right near them — like the willits and marbled godwits — miss entirely.
